The prize was awarded to Kardorff Ingenieure Lichtplanung GmbH in the “Outdoor lighting and floodlighting” category for the design of the F40_ Berlin office building.
The new commercial building at Friedrichstrasse 40 in Berlin Mitte closes one of the last gaps in the streetscape of the well-known city axis.
The projecting and recessed elements of the glass façade, which create visual tension, were particularly emphasized by the lighting concept. This is achieved with a spatial depth effect through lighting in the interior directly behind the façade.
The targeted illumination of the ceiling and wall surfaces of the projecting bay windows, approximately 1 to 2 meters into the room, creates a three-dimensional effect of the façade. In this way, the building becomes a luminous, structured body at night.
